How is an in-person escape room played?

You and your team work together to find clues, solve puzzles, and crack codes in an effort to unlock lock items that lead to more clues, and ultimately lead you to unlock the door and escape in the time allotted of 60-minutes. If you have not found the final key to escape the room in the time allotted, the game will end and the game master will explain any unsolved puzzles. Doors are only locked in theory. You can exit the game at any time.

What is the cost?

The cost can be found by clicking 'Book Now' and selecting your game, day, time, and number of players. A minor 4% processing fee will be applied during checkout.

Can we walk in to participate without a reservation?

No walk-ins available at this time. Reservations will need to be made online in advance and will guarantee your preferred date and time.

What's the minimum tickets required to book 1 in-person escape room?

Adult Private Room:

Depending on the room theme, the minimum tickets required ranges from 4-6 tickets for an adult-level private room. On the day of the event if you arrive with additional players up to the maximum room capacity of either 10-12 players we can charge for extra tickets during the check-in and send an updated receipt.

Kids Private Room/Kids Set Up:

A minimum of 6 tickets is required for a kids private room set up (1 adult/5 kids). On the day of the event if you arrive with additional players up to the maximum 12 players we can charge for extra tickets during the check-in and send an updated receipt. NOTE: For kids 12 years and under, 1 adult must be present and also purchase a ticket.

How do I check availability?

Visit Beatthelock.com and select "in-person rooms". Then scroll down and pick your theme. Select Book Now. Enter the number of participants. Toggle over on the calendar to select your preferred date, and all of the times will auto-populate for that date. Select your preferred time and follow the steps to pay. You will receive an email receipt to make sure your booking is complete. Be sure to check your filtered folder in case it lands there. Please bring your confirmation receipt with you for check-in.

What is the duration of the escape room activity?

60 minutes game play. Please arrive 15 minutes early to hear the introduction and rules. Your game will start at the booking time. The game will need to start on time, so if someone from your party will be late, we can get your game stared and the late-comer can enter the game when they arrive.

How many people can play in 1 escape room?

For single rooms the size ranges from 4 - 12 or 6-12 people. Keep in mind the smaller the group the harder the room will be to solve. The escape rate for The Spy Room is 45% based on 8+ adults. The escape rate for Secrets in the Attic is 35% based on 8+ adults. The escape rate for Xternal Forces is 30% based on 8+ adults. The escape rate for The Sound of Murder is 30% based on 8+ adults. FOR LARGER PARTIES, please contact us via email if you'd like to book two rooms for 16-25 people, three rooms for 30-36 people, or four rooms for 40-50 people.

What is the age limit for family room?

Our escape games are enjoyed by children age 8 to grandparents. The games do not involve heavy lifting or physical exertion. This is a mental exercise adventure!

Every person requires a purchased ticket for entry.

The youngest kids set up for a 'group of kids' is age 9-10 for a 10 year old birthday.

Will we be given additional hints or clues during the game?

Yes, the game master will provide a few hints and clues along the way.

When should you arrive for your game?

San Jose Escape Rooms: Please arrive 15-minute prior to your scheduled time.

Purchased tickets are a final sale. No refunds and no credits will be offered for late arrivals or no-shows.

How do I purchase a gift certificate?

Gift cards are available for purchase. They are perfect for graduation activity,  birthdays, special occasions, thank-you gifts, a family get-together, co-workers, holidays and stocking stuffers! Please visit our website and click on the GIFT CARD. Select the voucher amount that you would like to purchase and choose GENERIC gift voucher so that the recipient can choose which room they would like to do at the time of redemption. After payment, you'll receive a voucher that you can print out and include in your own card, and/or you can email the voucher to them. The person receiving the gift (the customer) visits our web site to redeem the gift voucher and make a booking. If the price of the item is less than the value of the gift card, the customer can use the credit left for other bookings in the future.

Is my ticket refundable?

All sales are final and tickets are non-refundable: no credit, no date or time changes for cancellations, late arrivals or no-shows. These are advanced ticket purchases for a specific date and time; similar to other ticket purchases made for concerts, plays, etc. Once your group reserves a room, we have turned away others who have wanted that same date and time, and we can no longer sell the room.

What about late arrivals?

We ask that guests please arrive 15 minutes prior to their event time to hear the rules and introduction. For late arrivals, the room will still need to end on time in order for the game master to be ready for the next event running directly afterward. We will do our best to get your game started quickly to allow you as much game time as possible.

If there are individuals who arrive late, they can still join in the game and will require a purchased ticket. Please inform the game master of any potential late arrivals. Late comers should notify you.
